Maternal Neonatal Tetanus Bake Sale
Judy Tran, Yuba City
In support of Maternal Neonatal Tetanus(MNT) week, Yuba City High School Key Clubbers held a bake sale for the last two days of MNT week, May 8th and May 9th. For each of those days, Key Clubbers volunteered to supply various kinds of baked goods like cookies, brownies, and other homemade sweets. The fundraiser was held in front of YCHS campus, giving all students a view of our delicious goodies. As a couple of members ran the bake sale, other members were willing to walk around campus with MNT posters and offer the option of delivering the sweets directly to the student. To publicize the bake sale, owners of food trucks were extremely eager to hang up our posters onto their trucks and even honk their horns to give our bake sale a great deal of attention. Holding the fundraiser also sparked much curiosity in the students, as many students were interested about learning more about the causes of the tragedy. Overall, the bake sale publicized MNT and Key Club, as the fundraiser proved to be exceedingly successful, saving many lives along the way.

Fish Fry
Ashley Siddhu, River Valley
In May 31st 2014 our happy key clubbers volunteered in the annual fish fry. It took place in Yuba City Sam Brannen Park. The event was filled with lots of joyful people along with a band playing away with amazing music. The event was sponsored to help fund scholarship money for graduates. River Valley's Key Clubbers helped keep the event going by setting up and working the children's games and prizes. Not only that, they also assisted the cooking area by handing out waters and distributing the food.

Mud Run
Rachel Ibach, Yuba City
On May 17th, the YCHS Key Club of D14 volunteered at the 2014 Yuba City Mud Run. This event was hosted by Elite Fitness, a local endurance training gym. This event was held under the 10th Street Bridge and the course was on a challenging dirt track. At this event we were assigned to various spots along the course. Particularly at the more challenging places on the track. Attendance at this event wasn’t large, but we had enough people to be stationed at the needed places. Our job was to direct runners in the right way, make sure no one got hurt, and to cheer on the runners! The Mud Run had a great atmosphere of family fun and everyone was having a great time. This event helped encourage a healthy lifestyle of individuals in our local area by getting them to participate in any of the races, which were separated by distance. Many people came to participate and local food businesses came as well to allow the runners to enjoy a snack afterwards. Our Key Club members were benefited because they were able help out such a wide variety of individuals at the event while meeting new people and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

Fishing Derby
Julissa Gomez, Marysville
“Get Hooked on Fish, Not Drugs!” was the motto of the day when over twenty Key Clubbers went to the Fishing Derby in Marysville on May 18th. We had to wake up before six in the morning to catch the worm and register hundreds of people. All of Key Clubbers and people at the Fishing Derby came to fish their hearts out, enjoy the free food and games, and to meet Puff the Smokeless Dragon, who promoted not to smoke to the children. Each Key Clubber chose an area that he/she wanted to be in charge of for the whole event. I have the privilege of being in charge of the games and help hand out candy to some of the people as well. It was fun seeing the children and even adults try to win some candy by knocking birds down or making a hole in one. Every Key Clubber had fun serving their community from 6 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. There was no boredom at all, anytime during the event. At the end of the event the Key Clubbers were thanked for helping throughout the event and showing their positively while doing it too! The people in charge of the event asked if we would help again next year and we said, “Of course!”

Officers Training Conference
Rachel Ibach, Yuba City
All the officers of D14 came together on June 27th at the First Presbyterian Church in Marysville for Division 14’s Officer Training Conference to learn about what they will be doing to serve as an officer of their school. The officers of a position went to a specific workshop that instructed them on their position's duties and how they will be working hard to serve their members and to make sure that D14 stays an amazing division! The officers also did workshops such as caring and leadership to do some character building. By the end of Officers Training Conference everyone had gotten to know each other and had become really great friends! To thank the church that allowed them to use the building for free, the officers repainted the church's whole parking lot. When the job was done there was no doubt that it had been an awesome idea! The officers had an extremely fun time working together and the parking lot was a lot newer looking and safer because now all the directional arrows and lines are clearly visible! The community benefited by this event greatly because that parking lot now looks great and it makes our community look great as well. The officers of D14 are now ready for an amazing year because they are going to serve their members perfectly and make sure that our division reaches all their goals!

June Division Council Meeting
Ashley Siddhu, Yuba City
On June 20, 2014 River Valley's Key Clubbers joined in with their division Key Clubbers in a DCM. The DCM was hosted at River Valley High school on the football field side, under the Falcon mural. For a whole 60 minutes these key clubbers played games, became familiar with others, and were updated about past, present, and future events. They got to do various activities such as a "Getting To Know You" by passing around a beach ball with numerous questions awaiting for the catcher. Once a Key Clubber had caught the ball, with their right hand, they were to read the question aloud and answer it. Another great activity that was done was when everyone was given a piece of paper. In the paper they were to right three characteristics about themselves. The first one was to be general, the second was to be general but more specific, and the last characteristic was to be very specific. At the same time River Valley's Key Clubbers, along with other divisions, brought canned goods to give for donation.

MNT Car Wash
Ashley Siddhu, River Valley
On July 26th, 2014 Division 14 Key Clubbers joined together on a mission to raise money for MNT. They strived together for a Division goal by hosting a car wash at Les Schwab. Not only did they work hard as a Division, but they also enjoyed either time together as friends helping out to save lives. The car was broken up into shifts where the Key Clubbers were able to choose a time that was sufficient for them. Each member brought towels, buckets, soap, and sponges of their own to help out in the car wash. They not only made the car wash possible and dedicated their time, but made a big difference in saving lives. In the end, Division 14 Key Clubbers raised $706, saving 392 lives. One generous donor had even given a donation of $330 to our cause. Overall, this was a very successful event thanks to the kindness of the community and the help of fellow Key Clubbers.

Peach Festival
Julissa Gomez, Marysville
Birds chirping and flowers growing could only mean one thing, the annual peach season! Every year, Marysville High School Key Club has the opportunity to volunteer for the Peach Festival in Downtown Marysville. The festival lasted two whole days going from morning till almost midnight. Each Key Clubber received a Peach Festival t-shirt for volunteering and showed it off while doing various tasks like setting up the mini shops and picking up trash around the festival. They also patrolled the grounds of the festival for three hours while exploring the multiple shops. Throughout the day, a couple of Key Clubbers, Shua Her and Emiliano Gomez, were able to control the amusement rides for a portion of the day while the other Key Clubbers continued volunteering. Toward the end of the Peach Festival, the person in charge thanked each Key Clubber and asked for us to come again next year!

Yuba City High School Car Wash
Rachel Ibach, Yuba City
The YCHS Key Club held a car wash on July 13th to raise money for MNT and to spread awareness to citizens of the Yuba City area. Members were able to raise money fast because each car was $5, which helped us raise a lot! Key club members worked together to wash the cars quickly and completely and the customers of the car wash were very pleased with the results. The customers were also given an explanation of what the car wash was raising money for to help inform more people of MNT. The car wash ended around 3 and the money raised all went towards the MNT vaccinations. This event allowed the members who attended to work together and to build skills in teamwork while citizens of the community were able to learn of the cause that we were working to raise money for. The citizens were very impressed of the Key Club members to be working towards such a great goal as trying to save the lives of babies and their mothers; they encouraged us to keep working hard and to reach our goal of $4,000 raised for MNT this year. We now have informed members of the community that know about the work that we are doing to save lives so hopefully we will get even more support from the community!
